November 2024 - Denver Museum on Nature and Science

We visited the new Rainforest Animals exhibit and tried to find the lizards, geckos, snakes, and toads which were well camouflaged in their displays! I think we found all but one or two of these exotic creatures. The sloth was easy to find and it was very fun to watch him hanging above us.  Our visit allowed time to take in another exhibit so we all decided to experience the Poisons exhibit and found it to be fun and educational.

September 2024 - International Foods

We started at HMart Korean food market and ate lunch in their restaurant area. Then we perused the aisles of the vast produce section, meats, sauces, rices, seaweeds, and more! It was an overload of Asian foods. Then we ventured across the street to Arash International Market; this market has a Persian flair, but shoppers from many different cultures were filling their carts. Several of us wanted to get some of their warm bread and were amazed at the choices! We also found imported foods and a completely different produce section than HMart. The two markets could not be more different from one another! Thirty minutes from home and yet we felt a world away from home.

August 2024 - Mango House Food Hall

This was a return visit for us to Mango house. Immigrant chefs prepare their country's special dishes in this vibrant food hall. serving Syrian, Burmese, West African and other specialties were tried by our group, all with great reviews.

June 2024 - Cafe Paprika Restaurant

In June, Janet Johnston arranged a fabulous dining experience at Cafe Paprika in Aurora. This Moroccan and Mediterranean restaurant has been in business over 30 years. We were served an amazing tasting menu with bastillas, several appetizers, lamb, chicken and vegetarian main dishes and a special chocolate backlava dessert.

May 2024 - Baroque Chamber Orchestra

We enjoyed the Baroque Chamber Orchestra so much last fall that when they returned to St. Luke’s in May, we knew that would be our Cultural Adventure for the month. This concert “With Strings Attached: Bach’s Goldberg Variations” delighted us again.

April 2024 – History Colorado Museum

We went to visit the latest display of John Fielder photographs and we experienced so much more! Most participants in our group visited the 10th Mountain Division exhibit in the lower level of the museum and were fascinated with the displays and learning about this time in Colorado history. Our Colorado mountains trained soldiers to be prepared for duty in the rugged mountains of Italy during WWII. A fascinating exhibit to add on to our experience.

March 2024 – Reggae Pot Jamaican Restaurant

This is located in Centennial strip mall and provided great food for all of us to try. Most popular were the Jerk Chicken, Brown Stew Chicken and Pumpkin Soup (spicy!) Reggae music over the speakers added to the ambiance.

February 2024 – Denver Botanic Gardens

The Orchid Showcase was on display and the Tropical Conservatory was filled with budding fruits and flowers on the tropical foliage. The art exhibits that day included the art of Little Golden Books and an extraordinary photography exhibit of large scale nature photos by Tanya Marcuse. A surprise to all of us was the opening of a short film in Gardens Auditorium entitled  “A Branch of Us” which follows the lives of four trees in America. Highly recommended!
